Ahmed ElSewedy

Born in Cairo, Egypt, and earned his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University in 1986. With over 35 years of experience in the electricity and power generation industry, he is recognized globally for his industrial leadership and commitment to education.

 Eng. El Sewedy took the lead of the family business, evolving it from the first private cable and electrical components factory in Egypt into Elsewedy Electric, a leading global provider of integrated infrastructure solutions. His strategic vision has allowed the company, which has been in the market for over 85 years and listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX) since 2006, to become a major industrial player worldwide.

Under his direction, Elsewedy Electric has achieved a significant global footprint, expanding with 34 production facilities in 11 countries, utilizing the talents of over 19,000 professionals, and exporting a wide range of high-end products to over 100 countries. The company currently operates in five key business lines: Wires, Cables & Accessories, Electrical Products, Engineering & Construction, Infrastructure Investments, and Digital Solutions. 

 He oversaw crucial acquisitions that enabled significant market penetration and expansion, including:

  •         Iskraemeco (Slovenia) for energy management
  •         PSP EPC contractors (Egypt)
  •         3W Networks (Australia – Dubai) for integrated communication and I&C Solutions
  •         PT CG Power Systems (Indonesia)
  •         Validus Engineering (Pakistan)

 Aside from his industrial leadership, Ahmed El Sewedy is driven by a passion to transform the perception of education in Egypt and the Middle East, bridging the gap between business, academics, and society.

  •         Vocational Education: In 2011, he established the Elsewedy Technical Academy (STA) as part of the ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC Foundation, offering quality vocational learning through sustainable educational institutions with state-of-the-art facilities to maximize community impact.
  •         Higher Education: Striving for continuous positive community impact, he introduced “The Knowledge Hub” in 2019, a multidisciplinary educational hub hosting world-class universities. This initiative currently includes Coventry and Nova universities in operation, with five more in the pipeline, and partnerships with institutions like Amity University, Politecnico di Milano, Texas A&M, and Metropolia.
  •         Coventry Chancellor: His devotion to improving education was crowned in 2024 with his appointment as the Chancellor of the University of Coventry UK, making him the fourth and the first Egyptian chancellor of the university.
  •         Entrepreneurship and Climate: He supports entrepreneurs as one of the “sharks” on Shark Tank Egypt and is the Chairman of the board of Chapter Zero Egypt, part of the Global Climate Governance Initiative.

Major Awards and Honors

  •         Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy (Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella D’Italia): Eng. Ahmed El Sewedy received this honorable decoration from the President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, in recognition of his significant contribution to serving the Italian Republic, his support of Egyptian-Italian relations, his advocation for education and vocational education, and his contribution to providing medical supplies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  •         Honorary Doctorates: He was conferred Honorary Doctorates at the Amity University Dubai Graduation Ceremony.
